Cray Wanderers are pleased to announce that Michael Power and James Duckworth have signed with the club for the 2017-18 season.
The return of Michael Power or as affectionately known as Shaggy adds even more firepower to a proven Cray forward line with Danny Haynes and Luke Medley in prolific form last season.
This is Michael’s third spell with the Wands and over the previous two spells he played 209 games scoring 70 goals winning the player of the year award in 2007-08 and helped Cray establish themselves in the Ryman League for the first time in the clubs history and eventual promotion to the Premier.
Since then he has gone on to play for Thamesmead Town then with great success at VCD Athletic under Tony Russell’s management and his goals helped them to the Ryman North title in 2013-14 and escape from relegation against the odds from the Premier in 2014-15. He then went on to be part of Greenwich Borough’s SECL title winning season in 2015-16 and scored 13 goals in their first season of Ryman South football before departing for Phoenix Sports in the new year where he scored nine goals in fourteen games. With those four teams mentioned playing in the Isthmian South next season he will be no stranger to the opposition.
James Duckworth will be like a brand new signing for the Wands after taking a year out through injury, surgery and recuperation and will be looking forward to returning to first team action next season. Another member of the VCD Athletic side which rose from SCEL to Ryman Premier, James came to Cray along with Tony Russell in the summer of 2015 and in the 2015-16 season scored 11 goals in 46 games as the Wands reached the Ryman North playoffs. Scored winning goals in tight games that season against Thamesmead, Maldon & Tiptree, Cheshunt and Three Bridges in the cup and could be a matchwinner next season.
We wish them both well next season as the Wands team begins to take shape to take on what is looking like another stellar season of Isthmian South football in 2017-18.
