Fisher 2 Cray Wanderers 3
Cray continued their pre-season programme with victory at Fisher in an entertaining contest where the Wands trailed at the break. Despite dominating the first half, Cray were thwarted on a number of occasions by the Fisher goalkeeper before the home side took the lead three minutes before half time with a penalty. Cray levelled immediately after the break through Luke Medley’s header before Warren Whitely gave Cray the lead with a curling shot. The Wands then scored again through Mitchell Nelson’s header before Fisher pulled a goal back two minutes from time.
The first half saw Cray play some fine football but perhaps just lacked their killer touch in front of goal or were denied by good goalkeeping. First James Duckworth fired over the bar before from a free kick, Danny Haynes effort was pushed behind by the Fisher keeper who also saved from Haynes scuffed shot from the corner.
Fisher almost took the lead when the no 2 fired a curling shot just over. Cray though hit back and were unlucky not to score when Haynes shot was pushed out by the keeper, Duckworth following up saw his shot blocked by a defender and as the ball came loose, Karl Dent was denied by another fine save. Then Dean Carpenter fired over before Michael Power set up Dent whose dinked effort was well held by the keeper. Perhaps his best save came when Jay Leader let fly from 25 yards which led to a dramatic flying stop.
Despite being almost in total command the Wands fell behind to a rather soft penalty when from a ball played into the box, the no 9 was adjudged to have been brought down by Leader. The no 9 then slotted home the penalty to leave Fisher leading at the break.
Cray though pulled level barely a minute after the restart when after good work down the right, Warren Whitely who Wands fans may remember played a big part in the Great Escape run whipped over an inviting cross from the left to the near post where Luke Medley ghosted in to head into the net.
Ten minutes later, Cray went in front when Whitely cut in from the right and curled a peach of a strike which gave the keeper no chance to save.
Ken Charles saw a shot pushed behind for a corner before Fisher came close when the no 8 saw his effort saved by Cray keeper Jack Kelly.
Cray continued to push forward and Haynes headed over the bar from close range from Anthony Adesite’s cross.
The Wands pulled further clear in the 78th minute when from a right wing corner, Adesite floated in a cross which was met emphatically by the head of Mitchell Nelson and planted the ball into the net.
Charles saw a shot turned behind again before Fisher pulled a goal back, two minutes from time when the no 14 hit a sweet strike from outside the area which deceived Kelly and into the net.
Time run out though for Fisher and Cray held on to win the game and notch their second win of the week.
