Cray Wanderers are delighted to announce that the following three players have signed for the club for the 2016-17 season.
Paul Lorraine officially signed for Cray and will be Tony Russell’s right hand man as Player Assistant Manager. Paul is a vastly experienced central defender and has played for Welling United, Woking, AFC Wimbledon, Ebbsfleet United where he was captain and later spells at Whitehawk and Dartford.
Danny Haynes is a new addition to the Wands team this season, Danny is a much travelled striker/right midfielder with a wealth of Football League experience behind him.
Danny initially made his name with Ipswich Town making 115 appearances in the Championship and gained notoriety amongst the Tractor Boys fans by scoring winning goals against local rivals Norwich City. During his time at Portman Road, he represented England at U19 level.
From here he signed for Bristol City and then on to Barnsley, Charlton Athletic during the 2012/13 season where he scored 9 goals in 34 games and then on to Notts County. After loan spells at Hibernian and Crewe Alexandra, Danny came briefly to Cheltenham Town before signing for Ebbsfleet United. Last season whilst at Stonebridge Road he spent a loan spell at National League Boreham Wood.
Already in pre-season he has shown tremendous pace and skill and could be a crowd favourite at Hayes Lane.
Speaking of crowd favourites we also have Supporters Player of the Year Grant Basey putting pen to paper for this season.
Grant, a former Welsh youth international came to Cray in the summer of 2015 from VCD Athletic and had a tremendously consistent season being ever-present during the league campaign scoring 10 goals, 5 of which were directly from free-kicks which was a career high for a season. Equally at home at left back or occasionally in the centre of defence, Grant is a hard defender to beat for pace, an accurate passer of the ball, gets forward well and has great delivery from set-pieces.
These three signings are evidence that there are big times ahead for the club and we are moving in the right direction.
