The Cray Wanderers Development side were beaten in their first home league game of the season as a lively Hastings United side came from 3-1 down to record a handsome win on the 2nd pitch at Hayes Lane.
Cray started on the front foot and John Paul Collier saw a shot blocked but Hastings took the lead in the 4th minute when the no 10 who had a good game throughout was played through and stroked the ball into the net.
The Wands side though were looking sharp up front and levelled after 11 minutes when Cain Cruz’s cross from the right into the heart of the area was touched into the net by Ross Cable for his second goal of the season.
Seven minutes later, Cray went ahead when Ralique Lawrence who had an excellent game let fly from the edge of the area and the keeper could only push the ball out to Cable who had a simple tap in to make it 2-1.
Hastings then dominated the game but Cray broke away and scored a third in the 35th minute when Lawrence again burst into the box down the right and again his shot was pushed out as far as Cruz who rifled the loose ball into the net.
The two goal lead lasted two minutes as Hasting pulled a goal back when the no 6 converted a penalty and then the Wands seemed to panic and defensive hesitation led to a mix up and the no 7 pinched the ball and rolled the ball into the net to make it 3-3 in the 39th minute.
Two minutes later, the no 10 scored an excellent individual goal when he burst down the left, cut inside and drilled in a shot at the near post to give Hastings a 4-3 lead at half time.
Cray began the second half well and Deshon Carty fired over the bar but Hastings were very quick to break away and a ball over the top split the Wands defense and the no 11 finished clinically wide of Sean Law to make it 5-3 in the 52nd minute.
Cray had seemingly had a let off when the no 10 seeking a hat trick saw a shot cleared off the line by Robert Depeazer but with the ball only half cleared the no 9 was bundled over in the penalty area for the second penalty of the night. The no 10 completed his hat-trick from the spot in the 63rd minute.
The Wands finished the game well and were unlucky not to score when Ken Charles down the left charged into the area and his cross shot was precise but just flashed wide ahead of the onrushing Cable who also was looking for a hat-trick.
With the game in the closing stages, Tyrelle David came close with a 30 yard shot which the keeper did well to push over the bar one handed.
In the end Cray were beaten and now go into two away games, starting at Greenwich Borough on Thursday night followed by Ashford United on Wednesday 20th September.
