Kent Youth League U14 Division North
Cray Wanderers U14s 3 Welling United U14s 1
The Cray Wanderers U14s continued their fine form of late with an impressive 3-1 win against Welling United at the John Roan Playing Fields. The Wands are now unbeaten in their last four league games since a defeat at Welling in early October and are up to 4th in the league table, five points behind leaders, Long Lane.
They were helped today by a tremendous hat-trick from Tion Cudjoe who scored three of the best goals you will see anywhere this weekend.
Cray played some excellent and disciplined football in the first half and took the lead when Cudjoe struck a free kick from 30 yards which the keeper did well to push away but following up Cudjoe blasted tbe ball back towards goal and into the back of the net.
Welling defended well at times to prevent Cray getting shots on goal and looked a threat themselves at times and the no 7 was played through and seemed certain to score but was denied by a brave save by Bobby Pavoux with his legs.
For Cray, Harvey Smith curled a shot wide and Femi Abate had a shot blocked and Chris AlHassan saw a cross shot go just wide.
Cray added a second shortly before half time with a superb piece of skill from Cudjoe. From a free kick way out on the left, some thirty yards from goal, he floated the ball towards goal and curled into the top corner of the net beating the keepers despairing attempts to save.
Half Time: 2-0
Welling got back into the game, straight after the restart with another excellent goal when the no 14 hit a cracking drive from twenty five yards which went in off a post.
The Wings started to exert more pressure on the Cray goal but the Wands held firm and AlHassan was unlucky when he drove a shot from the right just wide.
Then Smith latched on to a loose defensive header but his strike went straight to the Wings keeper. This was followed by Cudjoe setting up Smith who fired a shot narrowly over the crossbar.
Cray continued to soak up pressure and grabbed a third goal, four minutes from time when Abaie’s cross from the left found Cudjoe who placed a fierce shot wide of the keeper to complete a superb hat-trick.
The Wands had played very well against a good side and after a difficult start to the season when Cray lost three of their first five games, Sean Foley and Lee Amis’s side have started to put down a marker and are looking similar to the side which stormed to the U13s North Title last season.
They also face a mouth watering tie in the 3rd Round of the Kent County Cup on 11th December when they travel to Dover Athletic for a place in the Quarter Finals.
Team: Bobby Pavoux, Tyler Moth, Kasey Bekoe, Tobi Fashola, William Amis, Max Gayle, Theo Foley, Harvey Smith, Femi Abate, Tion Cudjoe, Chris AlHassan; Taku Zhanghaza, Kevin Yeboah.
This was the only game played in the Kent Youth League. There was much more action in the Selkent League
Thank you to Steve Redman for this round up of the Selkent League games.
Our Lady 0-15 Cray Wanderers Lions – U 11s – League C
Cray went into the match looking to extend their unbeaten run. They were playing Our Lady for the first time and despite poor weather the previous night, the pitch was good and both team fielded strong teams. Cray started brightly and Kaya was soon testing the pace of the back four and the hands of the keeper. Some good passing set Olly away down the left wing, he cut inside a defender to curl the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box, 1-0 Cray. Kaya then beat the offside trap to calmly find the corner with a curlling shot. Kaya follwed that up with two good finishes to complete a first half hat trick. Dad didn’t look too pleased, as no doubt cost him money for a hat trick.! Cray were dominant and further shots from Ben and Jamie failed to extend the lead further before Callum went on a run and was brought down for a penalty. Callum got himself up to slot home, sending the keeper the wrong way. Joseph then added to the scoring before half time following up to tap the ball home twice before half time, 7-0 Cray.
Soon after the break Joseph completed his hat trick with a lovely finish following a good move down the right from Angel. Our lady pushed forward in the home to get on the score sheet but George saved well twice and Our Lady forwards striking the wordwork. Andy and Zuriel led the defence well when required and the game was open with the football pleasing on the eye. All players getting involved, making angles and moving the ball quickly to test the keeper on a number of occassions. Callum added his second before Angel got on the scoresheet slotting home following good work by Ben and Jamie. Kaya then added Cray’s 11th goal with a great finish from an angle and Angel prodded home following a cross from the right. Olly then added the 13th before the 3rd hat trick of the day was completed by Angel!! It was only fitting when Kaya completed the rout with his 5th of the day and Cray’s 15th ofthe day. The biggest win of the season and the Lions go marching on…!
Scorers: Olly 2, Kaya 5, Joseph 3, Callum 2, Angel 3
