Last Sunday saw the start of the 2019-20 Kent Youth League season and the beginning of a new adventure for four Cray Wanderers sides for another year.
The U18s who had already began their campaign with a terrific win against VCD Athletic in the FA Youth Cup last Wednesday were in cup action again in the League Cup at old rivals Phoenix Sports on Sunday. Cray advanced with a fine 4-2 win with James Przeslawski (pictured) scoring twice and Chris Al-Hassan amongst the scorers. The Wands travel for their first league game to Dartford on Sunday before entertaining Ashford United in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday 18th September.
The U15s in the North Division of the Kent Youth League began their season at home to Phoenix Sports and were narrowly beaten in a high scoring encounter, 4-5 with Tyrone Ikie (2), Favani Onukwuli and George Clifford finding the net. They are at home again on Sunday to Greenway Aces at Foots Cray Rugby Club.
The U14s narrowly lost out on the Central Division title last season in a championship playoff final against Kent Football United (Pictured) and by quirk of fate faced the champions in the season opener at Queen Mary’s University Sports Ground in Chislehurst. Gaining a modicum of revenge, Cray won 2-1 with a brace of goals from Khemani Aiyanyo. A great start to the season and are next off to Dartford in the league on Sunday.
Finally, the U13s were making their debut appearance in the Kent Youth League following elevation from the Selkent League and were beaten in their opener 1-2 at Gravesham Borough. Steve Redman’s side scored in the first half through Andrew Dzonteh and are in League cup action at the coast as they face Whitstable Town.
