Cray Wanderers are in action tonight as they take on Three Bridges in a re-arranged game from last Saturday. That game was called off due to vandals causing damage to the Jubilee Fields pitch and the game will tonight be played at East Grinstead Town FC. This is due to the pitch failing an inspection yesterday evening and following negotiations East Grinstead have agreed to stage the game. Please note the kick off time of 7.30.
Since the postponement, Cray were in action on Easter Monday and produced an excellent performance to claim a point against playoff bound Greenwich Borough at Hayes Lane.
Cray manager Tony Russell was delighted with the performance which saw the Wands perhaps come closest to winning the game twice hitting the woodwork through Karl Dent and Danny Haynes. Tony also thought we had a great shout for a penalty when Ben Mundele looked to have been fouled in the area in the first half. Defensively, Cray were excellent with two young full backs and Antonio Lazzari and Paul Lorraine were quite superb against a very strong Greenwich side even without top scorer Charlie McDonald. There were also fine displays from Brandon Scott, Dent, Haynes and Lea Dawson but the whole team knuckled down well with Nick Blue in good form when called upon. Borough boss Gary Alexander said after the game that it was the hardest game his team have had all season which speaks volumes for the Cray display.
With the final game of the season at Faversham Town less than 48 hours later there could be a chance to look around all available squad options to keep the players fresh with three games in a week.
The Wands opponents Three Bridges have had a difficult season and face relegation to the Southern Combination and have 29 points from their 44 games. Since Saturday, Three Bridges ironically won 2-1 at East Grinstead on Monday. There is still something riding on their last two games as they are a point behind Chatham Town who are 20th which finishing highest in the bottom three could be beneficial in case of any reprieves. Their leading scorer is Paul Garrod who has 15 goals which is quite impressive in a struggling side. Paul Faili’s team complete their season against Walton Casuals which will be played at Merstham FC on Saturday.
