Potters Bar Town vs Cray Wanderers – Isthmian Premier – Saturday 6th December, 3 pm – Match Preview

Cray Wanderers play the first of four league fixtures in December on Saturday as the Wands head to Potters Bar Town looking to maintain a three game unbeaten run. Kick off 3 pm

Tim O’Shea’s side lie 7th in the Isthmian Premier League table on 29 points and last Saturday picked up a point from an eleventh draw of the season at Canvey Island. After a first half that saw two penalty saves Quade Taylor’s fine finish just after Canvey took the lead earned a point that was merited.

The game saw two new arrivals on the bench in Ayman El-Mogharbel and Freddie Price who both made their debuts and also Frankie Raymond and Taylor returned from suspension.  Due to Tom Bonner’s red card late on he will be suspended for the trip to Hertfordshire.

The Wands continue into December with matches against Whitehawk (H), Wingate & Finchley (A) and Cray Valley PM (H) to finish what has been a fine 2025 but first will have to overcome the challenge of Potters Bar Town who need the points sitting at the bottom of the table.

The Scholars recently saw Sammy Moore return to the club as manager and on Tuesday night ended an eight game run without a win with a bragging rights local derby 2-1 win at St Albans City. Goals from Damary Amyadike and an 84th minute winner from Nana Kyei earned the three points.  This moved Potters Bar Town onto eleven points nine off Cray Valley in 18th place.

So far at home Potters Bar Town who have returned to the Lantern Stadium and a new 3G surface after a season at Kings Langley have beaten Canvey Island (1-0) and drawn with Wingate & Finchley (3-3) with defeats against Burgess Hill Town (0-1), Brentwood Town (3-4), St Albans City (2-4), Cray Valley PM (2-3), Aveley (2-3), Folkestone Invicta (0-3) and Whitehawk (2-3). Away from home Potters Bar won at Chichester City (3-1) and St Albans City (2-1), drew at Hashtag United and lost at Lewes, Ramsgate, Dartford, Billericay Town, Carshalton Athletic and Burgess Hill Town last Saturday.

Last season’s games saw Cray win 4-0 at Potters Bar in November, 2024 with Josh Williams (2), Kenny Coker and Nyren Clunis. The Wands won a close encounter 1-0 on 11th January with a Coker goal.  Overall the teams have met eleven times with Cray winning five, Potters Bar two and three draws.

With Potters Bar boosted by Tuesday night’s win and Cray looking to maintain a playoff push this should be a fascinating match.
