Congratulations to the Wands Women who topped off a fine weekend for the club on the pitch with the U23s and Men’s first team all winning with a hard fought win at AFC Croydon Athletic. The Wands will now host Camden Town Women from Amy Winehouse, Madness and Emma Hayes country in the 1st Qualifying Round on 6th September who won 7-0 at Oxted & District.

Against Greater London League Croydon the Wands without Millie Main created openings in the opening half hour for Maddie Bone twice, Ellie Cole brushed the bar from a free kick from distance and Olivia Climpson on three occasions.
The Wands took the lead from the penalty spot converted by Ellie Rivers in the 32nd minute following a handball offence.

Croydon though fought back five minutes later when the no 8 followed up a couple of saved shots from Zara Aimey. The home side had a great chance to take the lead before half time but the no 5 shot wide when well placed.
HT: 1-1
That miss before the break woke Cray up and fifteen seconds after the restart went back in front when Bone fired in at the right post.

Cray were much more on top from here and Climpson came close before there was daylight between the teams in the 64th minute when Izzy Jose fired in off the left post.
Towards the end Cole and Melony Dixon came close to a fourth with the last chance falling to Chloe Francis who volleyed against the bar
Cray saw out the remaining minutes to advance past a tricky hurdle in their first competitive game of the season.
The win now sets up the home tie with Camden Town on Sunday 6th September. This means the scheduled opening league game at home to Chatham Town Development will be rescheduled.
