Tooting & Mitcham United v Cray Wanderers – London Senior Cup 2nd Round – Tuesday 13th October, 7.45 pm

Cray Wanderers begin a busy cup week by taking their London Senior Cup bow for the season this evening with a trip to Tooting & Mitcham United in the 2nd Round.  Kick off 7.45 pm.

Please note the tie will go to penalties if level after ninety minutes and the winners will be away to the winners of the all SCEFL Premier clash between AFC Greenwich Borough v Fisher which takes place on 17th November.

With Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Bedford Town firmly in mind tonight is likely to be a side boasting members of the U23s side currently third in the SCEFL Development League West.

Last Tuesday a number of players featured in the 2-0 win vs Punjab United in the Kent Senior Cup with Archie Morley, Ralph Short, Miller Fleming, Billy Wall, Jack Anderson, Michael Ihiedi, Abdul Cole, Caden Havell-Olding and Sam Robinson all featuring and impressing.

Cray will face a Tooting & Mitcham United club that have won the London Senior Cup eight times with the last victory in 2020-21 and been many great battles in the past.

Jamie Byatt’s side play in the Combined Counties Premier League South and finished 3rd last season losing to Fleet Town in the playoffs.

On Saturday they exited the FA Vase losing 2-1 at Cove with Max Oldham scoring in added time.

Tooting & Mitcham United have made an inconsistent start to the league season and stand 14th in the table. So far they beat Balham (3-1), Eversley and California (4-0), Godalming Town (2-0) and were beaten by Camberley Town (1-2) and leaders Fleet Town (0-2). Away from home they beat Corinthian Casuals (2-0) and Epsom & Ewell (3-2) and lost at Yateley United, Redhill, Virginia Water, Sutton Common Rovers and Knaphill.  In the FA Cup Tooting & Mitchan were beaten by Petts Wood and Holmesdale after a extra-preliminary round replay.

Tooting & Mitcham United had some great battles with the Wands over many years especially since the Isthmian seasons and the sides meet in the London Senior Cup for the eighth time with Cray winning the last time out on 8th November 2023, 4-2 at Hayes Lane with Yahya Bamba (2), Gary Lockye and Nyren Clunis scoring with Kieran Campbell and Blake Loyza for Tooting & Mitcham.

This should be a good test for the Wands tonight and seek a continuation of good Cup form this season.
