Cray Wanderers win 5-4 on penalties
The Wands cap a great week with victory on penalties after a fairly mundane game at Cheshunt.
The Wands early on threatened when Ade Yusuff saw an effort hit the top of the bar.
Cheshunt though took the lead on 21 minutes when Obi Onyegawara fired in at the left post.
Cray though deserved parity and on 35 minutes came when Ola Ogunwamide’s superb cross was turned in by Yusuff.
Cray threatened early in the second half when Sammie McLeod saw an effort tipped over. Alex Hernandez a shot held, Seidou Sanogo and Ola shot over and Lateef Adaja curled a shot wide.
For Cheshunt, Eddie Wright saw an effort saved while for Cray, Soul Kader worked an opening but keeper Ra’van Constable got down to save.
Cheshunt maybe came close to winning when Tommy Wood headed over and close to the end Jakai Bascoe-Fisher saw a shot pushed round by JJ Briggs.
So it came to penalties. Cheshunt stepped up first with Cole Da Silva, Kenny Coker and Sam Granville scoring and for Cray, Sammie McLeod, Alfie Payne and Ola Ogunwamide scored to make it 3-3. The fourth kick saw Tommy Wood seeing his shot pushed out well by Briggs with Kader slotting in to make it 4-3 Cray. The final action saw Bascoe-Fisher scored for Cheshunt but like all the other kicks Jakob Lowe showed composure to score and put Cray into Monday’s 1st Round Draw.
Although not quite the pizazz of Tuesday there was still a job to do and the job was done.
