Four years ago on this day Phoenix Sports and Cray Wanderers played out a thrilling 5-3 friendly and tonight saw part two as Cray looked to seek revenge.
Of course this time around Cray are under the guise of Neil Smith and Tim O’Shea and after saying hello to them the game got underway with Uncle Smiffy once again joining me on the sidelines.
Both sides had a chance a piece in the opening 30 minutes when firstly Cray’s David Ijaha had the ball laid off to him but he shot straight at Phoenix goalkeeper Andy Walker before Phoenix’s Alfie Evans had a shot towards the bottom left well saved around the post by Cray goalkeeper Liam Northwood.
The 33rd minute saw the deadlock broken when Andy Walker came rushing off his line to clear the ball and just about got there to punt the ball upfield and saw his team mate Andy Pugh through and he managed to find the bottom right corner.
Phoenix had further opportunities to add to their lead before half time when a corner from the right was headed wide by Ryan Sawyer before Alfie Evans had a shot to the bottom left saved by Liam Northwood.
HT: 1-0.
After Cray’s Cameron Black headed at Andy Walker moments before he equalised for Cray in the 78th minute when Yahaya Bamba laid off to George Porter who saw Andy Walker save his shot wide for a corner which in turn saw Black head home.
Cray had two opportunities to win the game finish off target through edge of the box efforts by Tom Derry and then Nyren Clunis but overall a solid workout in an unspectacular game.
FT: 1-1.
