Hello and welcome to all Members of the CWFC 100 Club…. as well as those reading this in the matchday programme.

On Friday 12th December, we held Decembers draw for the CWFC 100 Club, on another cold and gloomy evening when Whitehawk visited Flamingo Park. “Friday Night Football” at Flamingo Park? What’s going on? Nothing to do with allowing you all to get in another days Christmas Shopping in on the Saturday! No. Whitehawk had asked us if we could move the fixture from Saturday to Friday as they were going to Dublin on Saturday for their Christmas “Jolly”! And as we are a kind and considerate club, we had no qualms about rejecting their request and agreed. Personally, if I can get to a game and get back home again without too much trouble, I have no problems with matches being played on not-normal football days. And quite a number of people felt the same as we gained a healthy attendance of 602 on the night.

After a dominant first period, when Cray Wanderers scored in the 30th minute thanks to a Lateef Adaja strike and had a goal ruled out for off-side from the lively Soul Kader, returning to us for another loan spell from Bromley, you would have thought Whitehawk only had their “jolly” on their minds but 2 quick goals at the beginning of the second half were enough to see Whitehawk over the line with an unexpected victory.

At half time, while sourcing out someone who could do the draw for us, I saw member of the Cray Massive and Supporters Club, Joe Lawday, checking out things on his phone and just waiting to be knabbed by me, standing, underneath the clubhouse, and he kindly agreed to do the draw for us.

So the first ball drawn by Joe out of the tombola, was ball number 73, which belonged to Rebecca Goringe, who wins the first prize of £150. Address unknown, she is related to our historian Peter, who now lives in Shropshire. Well done Rebecca and many congratulations on being this month’s winner.

The second ball drawn out for the second prize of £100, was number 80. This ball belongs to Paul Stafford, of New Eltham. Congratulations Paul.

The third and final ball, drawn by David and the winner of £50, went to Carol Hain, of Tonbridge, with ball number 58. Congratulations Carol.

Well done and many congratulations to all our lucky winners and thanks again to all members for your continued support and participation in the 100 Club. I will be in touch with the winners shortly to enquire how they would like the delivery of their prize money. And many thanks to Joe for doing the draw for me.

Now for the usual any other business!

We would really love to get to the target 100 members, (although getting to 90 would be a start) as it would to boost the prize money I pay out to you as well as enabling me to give more back to the club. So if any of your family and friends wish to join the 100 Club, or if you are reading this in the matchday programme and would like to join, please either go to 100 Club tab on the website, (which I’m advised is going to be more regularly updated) where you can print off a form, or use the form in the matchday programme, (copies gratefully accepted if you do not want to ruin it!), complete it and send to me at the address provided. I will contact you to select a preferable and available number. You can also catch me on most match days and I can give you a form.

Please also contact me with any changes to your personal circumstances as soon as possible. I will always check first if you are a winner but it just makes it easier for me.

I hope you are enjoying Luca’s match-day commentary, if unable to attend a match and are finding it helpful. He has started attending away fixtures too. I have used it myself on a few occasions.

You have to set up a log in and it did make me download an app called ”Mixlr”. So now when I click on the Mixlr app, it goes straight to “Radio Wands”’

The petition started by Talia Wilson, who helps with matchday hospitality and catering, to improve accessible travel to Cray Wanderers FC, is still running. It currently has 1,006 signatures. Please support her efforts and get your friends and family involved too. It can be found at https://chng.it/kyZj9j7zYx

I’ve been using the 162 bus to Slades Drive and then walk along the “footpath” (??) by the side of Flamingo Park. For the Whitehawk match, I had to walk from New Eltham station as the cab firm let me down, which took a long time as I have to use crutches to get about. Better accessibility could mean larger attendances, bigger revenues and ultimately more success on the pitch!

So, until January’s draw, which looking at the fixtures and my diary could be on the day of the Carshalton Athletic match to be played on Saturday 24th, can I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Take care and “Be lucky”.

Cheers!

COYW!!
