Cray Wanderers vs Bromley XI
Friday 18th July, Match Report
Cray Wanderers 2
Adaja 12, Sutton 36
Bromley XI 2
Patten 43, Penn 69
Cray Wanderers third of six pre-season home games ended all square after a lively 2-2 draw against Bromley U23s on a balmy Flamingo Park Friday night.
The game was played at a decent pace throughout and Cray went two nil up through goals from Lateef Adaja and Remi Sutton. Bromley though produced a strong comeback to level through goals from Nathan Patten and George Penn. Much like Saturday’s game with Crystal Palace XI, the Wands fielded a mixture of first team and U23s player and trialists with new signing Parish Muirhead starting in midfield.
The game began with Bromley in control and caused the Wands problems and almost scored in the second minute when George Evans down the right flashed a shot just past the left post. Then eight minutes later the same player cut inside from the right and curled a cross-shot across goal and wide.
Cray though with their first real incision in the Bromley box took the lead in the 12th minute. Josh Williams saw his strike hit the woodwork but Quade Taylor kept the ball moving by nodding the ball to the right post for Lateef Adaja to score from close range.
For Bromley, Yuri Mann saw a shot blocked and came close in the 21st minute when Jed Borders from just outside the area saw a low shot pushed round the left post by Harry Seaden.
Cray looked to add a second with Adaja finding room down the left of the area but was crowded out before shooting. Then from a free kick Nodirbek Bobomurodov blazed a shot well over.
Then in the 36th minute Cray doubled the lead when from a corner the ball fell loose inside the area for Remi Sutton to shoot and fire past Dillon Addai.
Bromley stuck at it and deserved something from their first half efforts and pulled a goal back in the 43rd minute when from a corner down the right the ball was played to the far post and was met by a clean header from Nathan Patten to make it 2-1 at half time.
HT: 2-1
Cray began the second half well with Frankie Morgan’s cross from the left met by Ashley Nzala’s header but went straight to Addai.
Then George Brooke saw an effort blocked and then the trialist no 8 saw a fizzing shot deflected behind for a corner.
Bromley though were growing into the game again and Freddie Taylor down the left of the box saw a shot blocked by the impressive Quade Taylor.
Then down the left Mann saw a near post shot well pushed out by Harry Seaden as Bromley threatened a leveller.
In the 69th minute Bromley did draw level with a quality strike when George Penn who had a spell with the Wands last season broke forward from the back and with space unleashed a shot from close to 25 yards which flew past Seaden into the top left corner.
With a number of substitutions from both sides the match slowed down but both teams went for the win with Bromley close when Dawid Przbylo seeing a shot deflected behind. Then for Cray, Alex Hernandez hooked a shot well wide.
In the end the game finished in a draw which was about the right result and was a good game with plenty of endeavour and was well refereed.
Cray now after three matches remain unbeaten and now go into a run of games against Kent opposition starting on Tuesday 22nd July with Sittingbourne the visitors, 7.45 pm ko.
