Cray Wanderers 100 Club Draw Result – July 2026

Hello and welcome to all Members of the CWFC 100 Club…. as well as those reading this, both members and non-members, in the programme and on our various and superb Social Media platforms. Unfortunately, our plan to hold July’s draw actually in July, on the date of the Crystal Palace friendly didn’t materialize due to Palace pulling their U23s at the last minute, sending their U18s instead. Although I did take the black Velvet bag with me to the next friendly away to Faversham Town, there was no opportunity to do it as they had no proper club house in use and the rather moreish Mango Cider they were selling on a very hot afternoon, also made it slightly difficult for obvious reasons.

But we have now completed the pre-season preparations and the season has now got underway, with an opening fixture at Wingate and Finchley, a bit of a trek for those coming from Kent, although for me, one of my easier trips and I arrived 2 hours before kick-off. As I needed to get back on track and have a bit of a gap between the July and August draws, the black bag came with me again. The bar was not surprisingly lacking any of the Massive early on but with the attendance of Martin Hodson (Secretary), Mark Hunt (Press) and Natalie Stribbling (Media), all busily preparing for the match, the draw for July’s 100 Club finally took place and with only Natalie not a member, was happy when asked if she would do the draw for us.
So the first ball drawn by Natalie, was ball number 25, which belongs John Dewsbury, of Biggin Hill, who wins the first prize of £150. Well done John and congratulations on being this month’s winner!

The second ball drawn out for the second prize of £100, was number 5. This ball belongs to Stuart Cross of Sidcup. Well done Stuart!

The third and final ball, drawn out of the “black “velvet” bag was ball number 11, which belonged to our Matchday secretary, Martin Hodson, of St Mary Cray who wins £50. Obviously delighted with his win, especially as he exclaimed that it was usually his wife, Linda, who had all of the sucess in the Hodson household.

Well done and many congratulations to all our lucky winners and thanks again to all members for your continued support and participation in the 100 Club and thank you to Natalie for doing the draw for us. The winners will be contacted Monday to confirm how they would like their winnings sent.
Oh, nearly forgot. As for the match, a hard fort draw was gained, and despite starting the brighter, it was ex-Wand and an extremely vocal  and argumentative, Ashley Nzala, who scored with W & F’s first attack on the Cray goal, on 9 minutes. Controversy is never to far away in this fixture and this was no different as Wingate & Finchley had Tobi Tinubu getting a straight red on 32 minutes for a lunging tackle on Frankie Raymond. Thinking that the half time cuppa in the boardroom would be clouded with argument and disagreement, they tended to agree with the referees decision but did not mention Rob Strachan’s seemingly similar but less reckless challenge later on. We all agreed that the ref was awful though. But Cray managed to get the equalizer on 76 minutes when Ade Yusuff met a lovely left wing cross with a header, past a static defence and a statuesque ex-Wand loanee, Charlie Grainger in goal. It was nice to see Soul Kader back in a Cray shirt, up until January at least, even though in the maroon one (sorry I just can’t say Claret!!), who had a great chance but just missed a cross and ended up in the back of the net himself. We now seem to have a lot of attacking options, so hopefully it’s going to be a good season.

Now for the usual but necessary other business!

Sorry to bang on but Cray Wanderers are having to tighten their belts this season and we are desperately in need of funds. The AFC Whyteleafe arrangement and the money it will bring in will obviously be welcome. They have already spent a few quid on a small number of ground improvements. The newly installed Padel courts have also been doing really well, bringing in more extra revenue. I’m sure those at Finchley on Saturday will have noticed they also had Padel courts. We would really love to get to the target 100 members, (although getting to 90 would be a start) as it would to increase the prize money I pay out to you as well as enabling me to give more back to the club. This week, two of our members decided to have a second ball. Both myself and Cray Wanderers are very grateful for this and sincerely thank them. So once again, if any of your family and friends wish to join the 100 Club, or if you are reading this via another platform and would like to join, please either go to 100 Club tab on the website where you can print off a form and follow the instructions. You can still use the form in the matchday programme, (copies gratefully accepted if you do not want to ruin it!). Complete it and send to me at the address provided. I will contact you to select a preferable and available number. (Unfortunately there are quite a few).

Please also contact me with any changes of contact details or your personal circumstances as soon as possible. It would be nice that I didn’t have to find out after I have checked the account and have to sometimes make embarrassing enquiries. However, I will always check first, especially if you are a winner, and now I usually pay prizes out by bank transfer, it does make things easier.

The petition started by Talia Wilson, who helps with matchday hospitality and catering, to improve accessible travel to Cray Wanderers FC, is still running. It currently has 1,532 signatures, a disappointing increase of one from last month. We have reached 1,500 signatures and the “next goal” but unfortunately, I do not know what that is. But we still need more signatures. Also it would be good write to your MP or any other relevant authority that needs to be notified.

Better accessibility could mean larger attendances, bigger revenues and ultimately, we would hope, more success on the pitch!

AFC Whyteleafe supporters have been asking for better ways of getting to Flamingo Park and the Slades Drive footpath has been mentioned. But this is not an option during dark evenings. The link has been shared with them so we home they will also join the campaign.

So, until August’s draw, where it will hopefully be held at the home game with Welling United on bank holiday Monday, 31st August…. . . .
