Hello to all Members of the 100 Club.

It finally arrived and quickly passed. The final “Home” match played by Cray Wanderers at Hayes Lane. Saturday 20th April 2024. Another poignant date in the illustrious history of Cray Wanderers FC. Although we did have some good times at Hayes Lane, I think in recent years we could clearly see that we had outstayed our welcome with Bromley looking to progress to the Football League, making our time there rather difficult. But we now have Flamingo Park to look forward to. “Our” ground, where we can do what we want, when we want and keep our own revenue and progress ourselves.

So, on this auspicious date, when Cray were defeated in an end-to-end encounter with Bognor Regis Town by a harsh scoreline of 1-5, during the half time interval, we held the 100 Club draw for April. We nabbed the Cray legend Andy Silk. Started off at Bromley as a striker, and came to Cray (I think in 2002) as a full back. Anyway, these were the results of “Silky’s efforts.

Out of the tombola first and the winner of £150 was Jeanne Jackson of Greenhithe with ball number 32. Congratulations Jeanne.

Second Prize, for ball number 11, was Martin Hodson of St Mary Cray, who wins £100. Well done Martin and see you next Saturday at Dulwich Hamlet.

The third and final prize of £50, for the second month in a row, went to chairman, Gary Hillman, with ball number 7. Gary, as per usual, has kindly donated his winnings back to the Club. Cheers Gary and thank you once again for all your efforts and persistence in getting the Flamingo Park project finally to fruition.

A quick reminder. Please could you advise me of any changes in your contact details; address, email or phone number. It will assist me in getting the prizes to the right places. I now have access to Online banking so if you are lucky enough to be a winner, I can now give you this option for getting the prize money to you, instead of using cheques, for those who prefer this method. Obviously, I will contact all winners separately to find out their wishes.

The draw now goes on the road, when a small band of committee members, usually myself, Mark Hunt and Peter Jackson, visit a local hostelry and grab a bar manager or patron to do the draw. We will obviously be holding these sessions with a heavy heart as Kerry Phillips will not be there to join us. Any member of the Cray Massive are welcome to join us.

But who knows. For the July draw onwards, there is a possibility that we can start holding the draws at Flamingo Park. I know one Friendly match is confirmed. Saturday 13th July when we invite Sheffield FC down. 3pm kick off. The “Oldest Football team in the World” versus the “2nd Oldest Football team in the World”. And obviously there will be otherfs!

Many thanks to all 100 Club members for their continued participation. It is greatly appreciated by all at Cray Wanderers FC.

Until then. Be lucky and enjoy the short break and hopefully see you at Flamingo Park in July for the friendly fixtures or in August when the league commences.

 COYW!!
