Cray Wanderers are through to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup after one of if not the greatest victory ever in the competition against the top ranked team in the South section of the draw and National South league leaders. It is also the second time the Wands have beaten Maidstone in the Cup albeit 50 years apart.
Maidstone had an early shot from Tom.Leahy held by the excellent JJ Briggs but Cray showed thetheir intent winning four corners with Frankie Raymond seeing a shot deflected behind. From the Corner the ball came out to Ola Ogunwamide who from just outside thw box curled a beauty down the right.
Maidstone had a couple of half chances for Tariq Uwakwe and Riley Court but Ogunwamide nearly scored another better with his shot cracked off the bar. Uwakwe had a shot pushed over on half time.
Maidstone came close right at the start of the second half with substitute Nana Boateng setting up Court for a close range effort that was well saved.
Cray though defended stoutly throughout and still threatened on the break with Lateef Adaja seeing a shot pushed out.
Leahy saw a shot gathered by Briggs and for Cray substitute Seidou Sanogo headed over.
Maidstone applied pressure from free kicks but defensively held out and continued to show confidence going forward.
In the 85th minute Cray nearly added a second when Ogunwamide set up Ade Yusuff but his shot was saved by the legs of Lenny Holden.
Cray though deep into added time put the icing on the cake with a second goal as another impressive performer Tobi Tinibu down the right laid an excellent ball to the far post for Yusuff to apply a touch and cue bedlam.
This has to go down as one of the great Wands away performances and now must await the winners of Chippenham Town or Yate Town at Flamingo Park on 3rd October.
This means the Isthmian Premier match with Three Bridges that day will be rescheduled.
What a night!
