Congratulations to the Cray Wanderers Women who advanced to the SECWFL Cup Final after a professional win at Parkwood Rangers in the Semi Final to reach a first ever Cup Final.
This is only the third season for the Wands Women and will now face Maidstone United in the Final who beat unbeaten league leaders Tonbridge Angels 2-1 in the other semi-final. Cray are also in the Semi-Finals of the Kent FA Plate where they face Tonbridge Angels at Flamingo Park on 15th March.
Parkwood play in the SECWFL Division One Central, a league below Cray but had beaten Premier sides Margate and Hollands & Blair so had to be respected.
Cray began the game well and took the lead in the 10th minute when a poor clearance from the home side saw the ball fall to Frankie Mardon whose shot squeezed into the net.
The Wands went two nil up just after the half hour when another lax clearance came to Ellie Rivers who rolled the ball into the net.
Maddie Bone put over a cross that Millie Main couldn’t get on the end of and five minutes before halftime Main hit the bar from 20 yards.
A minute before half time it was 3-0 when a great weighted pass from Chloe Francis was latched onto by Bone who slotted home.
Parkwood Rangers pulled a goal back in added time through Lizzie Nugent.
Cray made it 4-1 in the 68th minute after a fine buildup saw Mardon hit the bar and Main followed up the rebound.
In the 76th minute Cray added a fifth after good build up play when Bone scored her second from 15 yards.
Ruby-Jean Turner shot over near the end and Parkwood scored a consolation with Nugent scoring her second but Cray had done enough to win the game.
The Wands have scored 23 goals in 4 rounds to reach the final which will take place at the Gallagher Stadium on a date TBC.
The Wands and Maidstone United will have a dress rehearsal for the final in the league on Sunday 8th March, 3pm ko.
