Up until last Saturday, we found ourselves in the heady heights of 2nd place after 4 matches with 3 victories and a draw. After having the first 3 matches at home, we faced a difficult task at our first away fixture at Billericay Town and smashed it…AGAIN… for the second season running against favourites for promotion that included a very quiet Joe Taylor. But then, we came down to earth on Bank Holiday Monday, with another home fixture against newly promoted Brentwood Town where they beat us 5-1 which I think although shocked us all and didn’t see coming, especially after the dominant performance a couple of days earlier. We have to admit it was a very below par performance from the boys in amber, with “The Wood”, that included ex-Wand Charlie Edwards, taking full advantage of our young and inexperienced back 4. The boys were not-surprisingly down in the changing room and in the bar afterwards but they can only learn from this, dust themselves down and go again.
But at half time, with the scores 1-1, we held August’s 100 Club Draw and at least made 3 people happy after the game had concluded! We asked Claire Jones, Youth Secretary & Welfare Officer as well as the turnstile operator, who I caught busy in the office but she was very pleased to do the draw for us.
So the first ball drawn by Claire out of the tombola was ball number 52, which belonged to Andy Hay of Gravesend who wins the first prize of £150. Well done Andy and many congratulations on being this month’s winner.
The second ball drawn out for the second prize of £100, was number 22. This ball belonged to Brain Bailey, of Chislehurst, another relatively new participant. Brian was in attendance at the match and was able to pick up his winners cheque.
Congratulations Brian.
The third and final ball, drawn by Claire and the winner of £50, went to Derek Pullman of St Mary Cray, with ball number 77. Derek is a supporter of long-standing and writes great and informative historical articles for the programme and social media. He also assists, with Colin Heys, myself and Mark Hunt, in the press area with “dubious goals” and things we may have missed. Dare I mention that he has also done a bit of punditry for an opponent’s radio commentary. Congratulations Derek.
Many congratulations to all our lucky winners and thanks again to all members for your continued support and participation in the 100 Club.
Now for the usual any other business!
If any of your family and friends wish to join the 100 Club, to boost the prize money and enable me to give more back to the club, please go to the 100 Club tab on the website, print off a form and send the completed form to me at the address provided. A form is also in the new-styled matchday programme. Again, copy it if you don’t want to ruin your programme and again send it to me. I will contact you to select a preferable and available number.
Please also contact me with any changes to your personal circumstances as soon as possible. For one, how will I know where to send your winnings? We have had a leaver which is a surprise as he was a very recent winner. Still awaiting confirmation that he has left. Just would have been nice to be told.
I hope you are enjoying Luca’s match-day commentary and if unable to attend a match are finding it helpful. Saw Luca at Billericay, looking for a spot to set up. I hope he was successful and he was able to describe our victory to you? Hopefully you can access it.

You have to set up a log in and it did make me download an app called ”Mixlr”. So now when I click on the Mixlr app, it goes straight to “Radio Wands”’
Please support the petition started by Talia Wilson, who helps with matchday hospitality and catering to improve accessible travel to Cray Wanderers FC, has had an increase in signatures but unfortunately, we need more. Please support her efforts and get your friends and family involved too. It can be found at https://chng.it/kyZj9j7zYx
I’ve been using the 162 bus to Slades Drive and then the walk along the “footpath” (??) recently, but will have to revert to other ways during the winter months.
So, until September’s draw, take care and “Be lucky”.
Cheers!
